Alistair Sutherland
Technical Director
Alistair Sutherland is the Technical Director at Taupo Consulting. Alistair has worked in the IT industry for over 15 years providing technical consulting expertise and training delivery in a variety of distributed systems.
Alistair started working with VMware in 2002, when VMware were little known and the ESX product was at version 1.5. Through working directly with VMware Alistair became one of the first VMware instructors in EMEA and the process of building mature virtualisation skills started. Alistair travelled the world for over 3 years on behalf of VMware and tier 1 partners delivering VMware training, consulting & workshops covering locations including Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Sydney, Copenhagen, Prague, New York, Sao Paulo.
Alistair has been found at every VMworld conference since 2004, in both Europe and Americas, usually assisting with instructor activities or providing VCP certification preparation workshops in the conference venue.
Alistair is the primary author of the B2V Command Line Guides to VMware ESX which were started at version 2.0. These guides have become the de-facto standard command line guides and are heavily linked to and referenced everyday by virtualisation users around the world.
Alistair is a “Board Warrior” on the VMware community forum assisting where he can and contributing back to the virtualisation community. He has been a speaker at Tech Forum conference in Las Vegas and was the host for the virtual genius challenge at VMworld 2005 in Los Angeles
Tom Mill
Managing Director
Tom is a seasoned professional having spent his entire career in the Computer industry since graduating in Mathematics from Glasgow University.
A significant feature of Tom`s track record has been in taking start up or fledgling companies and successfully turning them into substantial successful enterprises.
Over a decade Tom took Weir Systems from a start up in the ERP space and developed it with a combination of in house design and industry standard software into a major Software House, employing 150 professionals across four offices in the UK
More recently Tom developed EVision from a fledgling start up, designed their products for the Construction Industry, and established the company as one of the main players in the sector operating across three offices in the UK before selling it in a successful trade sale.
David Ashton
Marketing Director
David has been working in marketing and IT sales for over 15 years and started at the bottom of the career ladder by working in Telesales for a small Scottish IT company in Glasgow. As his career developed David spent more and more time working in lead generation and marketing activities. At this point David recognised that there were some amazingly strong technical companies in Scotland and the UK that with bit of assistance could grow quickly into larger profitable businesses. This resulted in David setting up his own business which he ran successfully for over 7 years.
During this time David helped many small IT companies across the UK with marketing and most importantly lead generation plans. David is also a great believer in looking at new and innovative marketing strategies and got involved with some emerging methodologies that today are deemed common practice i.e. SEO/PPC, Online PR, Blogging, prospect profiling etc.
